Investigations

Our office is responsible for conducting an origin and cause investigation of all fires and explosions that occur within the Town of South Windsor. Through effective fire and explosion investigations, we can identify ways to prevent future fires, identify dangerous and defective products/materials, prevent insurance fraud, and identify incendiary (intentionally set) fires.

From small fires to large fires, from vehicle fires to building fires, our staff is trained to apply the scientific method and conduct a thorough, objective documentation and analysis all types of fire incidents.  On large-scale investigations or when evidence of a crime is suspected, our office routinely works in conjunction with officers from South Windsor Police Department who are trained in fire investigation. When additional resources are needed, we may also request the assistance of the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigations Unit.

Our authority and responsibility to conduct origin and cause investigations stems from Connecticut General Statute, Chapter 541, Section 29-302.
