  1. What is the Public Buildings Division responsible for?
    The Public Buildings Division is responsible for long and short-term maintenance, safety and reliability of numerous capitol assets throughout the Town. These assets include the Library, the Edward F. Havens Sr., South Windsor Annex, Town Hall, Community Center, Police Department, the Public Works Facility as well as Recreational Facilities, Storage Facilities, and Out Buildings totaling approximately 200,000 square feet. The Public Buildings Divisions primary focus is to support each sites critical safety and emergency systems such as HVAC, Fire, Water, Electrical and Emergency backup systems at each site. The Public Buildings Division also recognizes the importance of each departments goals and objectives and works closely with them to help meet those goals. The Public Buildings staff provides timely, courteous and professional support services on two shifts that cover eleven hours of the day.  Planning, and organizing work schedules and activities are accomplished out of the Building Maintenance Headquarters on Ayers Rd.
     
  2. How many employees are in the Public Buildings Division?
    A total of five. There are three Building Maintainers, one Maintenance Supervisor and one Facilities Manager
     
  3. What is the annual operating budget for the Public Buildings Division and what does it cover?
    1.9 Million Dollars. The budget consists of accounts for Utilities, Equipment Repairs for amongst other things, pumps, valves appliances and fire alarm equipment, a Repair Facilities account for repairs to doors, windows, electrical systems, plumbing, walls and fixtures and an Operating Supplies and Salaries account.
     
  4. What are the hours of the Town Hall?
    The Town Hall Hours are Monday 8am to midnight, Tuesday 8am to 11pm, Wednesday and Thursday 8am to 10pm and Friday 8am to 4:30pm.  The doors lock and unlock automatically on a schedule.
     
  5. When do the buildings get cleaned and who cleans them?
    A contracted service provider cleans the buildings every night. One or two people are onsite starting at 4:30pm until the building closes nightly.
     
  6. How are contractors selected for services and construction projects?
    Depending on the scope, size and cost of the project or service, some contractors are asked to provide proposals using competitive RFP or bid process while other lower cost projects and services can be procured simply by written quote.
     
  7. How many contracts are managed through the Public Buildings Division and what types of contracts are they?
    The division manage over 40 contracts. There are single and multi-year contracts for HVAC, custodial, fire alarm testing and inspections, internet, phone and TV service contracts, farmland lease contracts, chemical water treatment, electricity procurement, building automation service and repairs and refuse collection contracts to name a few.
