Hartford Foundation for Public Giving

The Greater Together Community Funds

Would you like to help improve South Windsor? Do you have ideas for the Town you would like to share? The Town of South Windsor is seeking residents to be members of The Greater Together Community Fund advisory committee.

The Hartford Foundation has created 29 new funds, one for each of the towns in the region, including one for South Windsor. According to The Hartford Foundation, "The purpose of the Greater Together Community Funds is to support the community in taking ownership around the needs in their towns, encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement and anchor the Hartford Foundation in each town."

Each community fund will be managed by an advisory committee. We are looking for residents who are willing to be on this committee. The Hartford Foundation states, "The advisory committees will identify the greatest needs in their communities and design a grantmaking process aimed to ensure that the community funds can have the greatest impact for the benefit of town residents. Hartford Foundation staff will provide guidance on topics such as participatory decision making, grantmaking and fund development, as needed."

Advisory Committee Members:

  • Town residents, age 14 or over
  • 5-15 members, reflective of town residents
  • Cannot be elected officials
  • Term limits: max of 6 consecutive years

Advisory Committee Responsibilities:

  • Identify community needs
  • Establish an inclusive grantmaking process
  • Serve as liasons to the Hartford Foundation
  • Keep track of funds available for grantmaking
  • Request support from Foundation staff as needed

Please email hartfordfoundation@southwindsor.org if you would like to be considered for the The Greater Together Community Fund advisory committee. If selected, we will ask you to participate in a brief interview with the Town Manager.
