Youth and Victim Services - Family Violence/ Domestic Violence

The unit handles family violence outreach and is responsible for providing specialized services to crime victims and ensuring that victims are connected with the resources of the State’s Victim Advocate and the Office of Victim Services.  The unit is also responsible for state mandated reporting on various domestic, youth, and victim statistics and surveys.  

This unit is responsible for the School Resource Officer program which places an officer in South Windsor High School as well as Timothy Edwards Middle School. The unit deals with situations involving juvenile related crime as well as juvenile and school outreach programs. 

The officers in the unit participate in the Town of South Windsor’s Juvenile Review Board, a diversionary program which focuses on balanced and restorative justice principles.  The JRB is for first time juvenile offenders and provides community-based solutions for juvenile offenders while keeping them out of the juvenile justice system and juvenile court.  The JRB also handles various school-based offenses which would not be appropriate for juvenile court and are referred by the schools.
