Uniformed Patrol

The uniformed patrol division is currently staffed by approximately 20 officers and divided into three shifts or watches for 24 hour / 7 days a week coverage. The watches include: Midnights (11 p.m. - 7 a.m.), Days (7 a.m. - 3 p.m.) and Evenings (3 p.m. - 11 p.m.). Each watch is supervised by a Sergeant and/or Corporal.  Generally speaking the department has a minimum of a supervisor and 3 district officers working at all times.

The Department’s patrol personnel are the agency's initial responders for all calls for service in the community. Patrol officers conduct initial and follow-up investigation of criminal incidents, respond to medical emergencies, animal problems and other miscellaneous calls for service. In addition to responding to calls for service, the patrol division works proactively to protect the citizens and property of South Windsor. The patrol division actively enforces the law, conducts traffic enforcement and engages with the community in problem-solving. The patrol division handles approximately 4000 cases per year and over 30,000 calls for service in a calendar year. 

The patrol division prides itself on its professionalism, compassion, and quality of service delivered to the community. The patrol division includes officers that have been trained as a Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technicians and Emergency Medical Responders, Hostage Negotiators, former School Resource Officers, Traffic Crash Reconstructionists, Criminal Investigators, an Arson Investigator, Capital Region Dive Team Members, current and former SWAT team members and Patrol Rifle Team members, Narcotics Investigators, Drone Pilots and former K-9 handlers. Many of our patrol officers are also state certified instructors. In addition, there are several officers who hold state firefighter certifications.

Our patrol officers hold degrees from educational institutions such as the University of Connecticut, Central Connecticut State University, Eastern Connecticut State University, Charter Oak College, University of Hartford, University of New Haven, Bryant College, Trinity College, University of Scranton, Asnuntuck Community, University of Massachusetts,  Assumption College, Sacred Heart University, Emerson College, and Roger Williams University. We also have several former members of the military, including the United States Army, Air Force and Marine Corps. 

It is the mission of the South Windsor Police Department Operations Division to protect and serve anyone within our jurisdiction and region through professional, compassionate and proactive law enforcement.
