Training (Professional Development)

Under the supervision of the Professional Development Coordinator, the Training cadre and Field Training Officers perform a variety of complex professional and administrative management tasks which assist in coordinating the training logistics of the South Windsor Police Department.  The unit is responsible for:

  • Coordinating and conducting training activities, seminars, conferences, and workshops, which may include: analyzing and evaluating training requirements; reviewing and processing employee training request forms; securing facilities and instructors for training and maintaining department personnel certifications and records.
  • Developing and maintaining the department training calendar.
  • Coordinating new employee (pre and post academy) training; orientation schedules, as well as the Field Training (FTO) program.
  • Reviewing and maintaining employee training records for compliance with the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC) certification requirements. 
  • Developing and instituting training plans for the Department.
  • Maintaining and updating our online training tracker, PowerDMS.
