Obtaining A Peddler Permit in South Windsor, per Town Ordinance 18-31
A peddler goes from place to place selling or taking orders and requiring full payment. Soliciting funds for a charitable cause is or political cause is not a peddler. Please the information sheet for more details. Peddlers are required to submit a photograph and a background check for suitability by the Chief of Police. There is a $25.00 initial fee payable to the Town of South Windsor. Questions may be directed to the Office of the Chief of Police, 860-644-2551.
Notes:
a. A peddler goes from place to place selling or taking orders and requiring full payment.
b. A peddler is NOT a person who remains stationary in the same location day after day and sells from a vehicle.(hot dog cart, food cart, etc)
c. If a person does not fall under the definition of a Peddler, he/she does not need a peddler’s permit.
d. Exemptions
The peddler ordinance does not apply to;
· Sales by FARMERS and GARDENERS of the produce of their farms
· Sale and delivery of milk, tea, coffees, spices, groceries, meats and bakery goods
· Taking of orders for merchandise for future delivery when full payment is not required at the time of solicitation.
