The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®)

The South Windsor Police Department is pursuing accreditation through CALEA.  Accreditation involves meeting best practice standards, both in policy and in practice and requires an extensive amount of policy work, procedure adjustments, and "proofs" that the program is being adhered to.  The department began the exhaustive process in September 2020 which entailed the self-assessment to comply with CALEA's Tier-1 program.  This involves roughly 150 individual policies of our Operations Directives.
