Weather Alert

A high wind warning and flood watch are in effect for Hartford County on December 25th from 12:00am until 12:00pm. In preparation for the impending storm, please:
- Secure or take down outdoor holiday decorations and other items
- Make sure all devices like cell phones & flashlights are charged
- Avoid downed power/utility lines
- Call South Windsor Police at 860-644-2551 for downed trees, flooding, and downed power lines. For emergencies, call 911.
- For routine utility service, outage issues, and estimated restoration times, please call your utility company. To contact Eversource, please call 1-800-286-200.
- If you need to use a generator, please:
- Be wary of back feeding which could injure utility workers
- Do not use generators indoors
- Follow the directions supplied with the generator
- People should avoid being outside in wooded areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows.
- Tune in to local media weather reports for updates and instructions for serve weather
- Avoid all unnecessary travel
- Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop
- Due to COVID-19, there is limited availability of warming centers so have a plan to stay warm if you lose power.
