COMPOSITION:  Six (6) members

ELECTED/APPOINTED:  Members are nominated by the Republican and Democratic Town Committees and appointed by the Town Council.

ESTABLISHED BY:  Town Charter (Chapter 5, Sec.502) and Sec. 2-600 (Chapter 66, Article II in current published version, adopted by the Town Council 2/1/1999) 1969 Revised Code of Ordinances Town of South Windsor          

YEAR:  South Windsor Public Library and Library Board established by Town Meeting in 1898; subsequently affirmed in Charter and Ordinances noted above

TERMS:  4 years, staggered terms (three terms expire at time of each local election)

CURRENT MEETING SCHEDULE:  4th Tuesday of the month

GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES: The Library Board is the sole policy-making body for the Library, including selection and evaluation of the Library Director, preparation of the budget and authority over its expenditure, compliance with applicable State and Federal laws pertaining to libraries, maintenance of required records and filing of reports. The Board is charged with planning for and maintaining adequate library facilities and collections, and providing free library services for the Town’s residents.

REGULATIONS/MASTER PLAN/PROGRAMS:  The Library Board regularly reviews and approves policies related to the Library’s operation, including Collection Development, Circulation, Use of Meeting Rooms, Personnel, Patron Behavior, and related topics.
