Updated Information on Absentee Ballots for the March 16, 2021 Referendum

Absentee Ballots for the March 16, 2021 Referendum are available from the office of the Town Clerk. You must complete an application in order to receive an Absentee Ballot.

Registered voters may complete an Absentee Ballot Application and vote using an Absentee Ballot for one of the following reasons:

  • Illness
  • Physical disability
  • Absence from town during all voting hours
  • Religious beliefs forbidding secular activity on voting day
  • Duties as an election official
  • Active service in the Armed Forces

Please refer to the Memorandum of Opinion (click the link below) issued by the Office of the Secretary of the State on January 11, 2021 which clarifies the definition of “illness” for Absentee Balloting at a time when the State of Connecticut continues to face the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSENTEE BALLOT APPLICATIONS:

Voters MUST complete an application in order to receive an Absentee Ballot.  Applications are available by downloading the application and printing (click the file below for the application), calling the Town Clerk’s office to have the application mailed, or obtaining an application from the Town Clerk’s office.

Once the voter has completed the application, they can return it in one of three ways:

  1. Mail to the Town Clerk’s Office, 1540 Sullivan Avenue, South Windsor, CT 06074 and mark the outside of the envelope “Absentee Ballot Application.”
  2. Place the application in the Official Ballot Drop Box located outside Town Hall
  3. Hand deliver the application to the Town Clerk or one of the Assistant Town Clerks at Town Hall.

If we receive your application by mail or the Official Ballot Drop Box, we will mail the Absentee Ballot package to you as directed on the application.

If THE VOTER hand delivers the application to the Town Clerk’s office, we can issue the voter the Absentee Ballot package. THE VOTER’S ABSENTEE BALLOT PACKAGE CAN ONLY BE GIVEN TO THE VOTER AND ONLY AFTER VERIFYING THE VOTER’S IDENTIFICATION.

ABSENTEE BALLOT RETURN:

Upon receipt of the Absentee Ballot package, please be sure to read and follow the instructions carefully which include signing the INNER envelope.

Once a voter has completed the Absentee Ballot and followed the instructions regarding the ballot and envelopes, THE VOTER can return it in one of three ways:

  1. Mail to the Town Clerk’s Office by placing a stamp on the Outer Return Envelope and completing the return name and address information
  2. Place in the Official Ballot Drop Box located outside Town Hall
  3. Hand deliver to the Town Clerk or one of the Assistant Town Clerks at Town Hall
