South Windsor, CT – 01/19/2024 – Bonnie Armstrong, Town Clerk announced today that South Windsor has implemented Cott Systems’ PropertyCheck in the Town Clerk’s Office to help protect residents from potential property and mortgage fraud. The 24/7 service allows residents to sign up on the Town’s website to receive notifications when official documents are recorded on the land records. Residents can activate alerts based on their name. There is no cost to participate.

Records in many states are made available for viewing online which makes it easier to track recordings on your property, but it does require persistence and, in some cases, costs the taxpayer for access.  PropertyCheck eliminates the time associated with searching on your name or property by alerting you via email or text message when a document has been recorded that matches the alerts that you activated. The Town works in partnership with Cott Systems to offer this no-cost solution, helping residents feel safer about their properties and online security.

We have had increased questions from residents about fraudulent documents being recorded in their name. I’m hoping that this free service will put people’s minds at ease knowing that, when they sign up, they will get an immediate notification if something is recorded on the land records with any matching names they register. If a notification is received, the resident can check the free index search or contact the Town Clerk’s office to determine what was recorded and decide if any action is needed on their part.
