LED Street Lights

Eversource has begun the replacement of over 1600 South Windsor streetlights with the newer, more efficient LED technology. These lights will use 48% less electricity than the older high pressure sodium lights installed throughout the town. The current project will only replace streetlights along roadways with overhead wiring.  These so-called cobra head fixtures hang off a power pole. The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) has yet to approve electric rates for utility owned lights in neighborhoods with underground wiring. South Windsor Energy Committee chair Steve Wagner says, “This is a great opportunity for the town to reduce power-plant emissions while, at the same time, saving money for the taxpayers.”
