The Historic District Commission meets at 7:00 pm on the 1st Tuesday of the month, January through July and September through December. All meetings are open to the public.

COMPOSITION:  Five (5) members and three (3) alternates

ELECTED/APPOINTED:  Appointed

ESTABLISHED BY:  CGS 7-147a – 7-147y Charter Sec. 54-31 and Town Ordinance #181                                    

YEAR:  1970

TERMS:  Five (5) years

CURRENT MEETING SCHEDULE:  1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm, except August.

GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES:  

Principal regulatory function is to decide whether to issue certificates of appropriateness for the proposed erection, alteration & demolition of a building or structure within the boundaries of the relevant historical or archaeological significance within a historic property.

A Certificate of Appropriateness, issued by the Historic District Commission after its review, will be required for any new construction, demolition, repairs, or changes to the exterior appearance of a building or structure, or any site improvement feature, within the Historic District, visible from a public road, way, or place.
