Pleasant Valley Bridge Closed - Seek Alternate Route

PRESS RELEASE

Pleasant Valley Road Reconstruction (from Pepin Place to Ellington Road) and Replacement of the Bridge over the Podunk River

Pleasant Valley Road and bridge will be closed beginning the last week in June or the first week in July; it is expected to remain closed until the end of November 2023. Access to all properties along this section of the road will be maintained during construction. A detour will be provided around this area via Route 5, Chapel Road, and Ellington Road.

The Town of South Windsor has hired O & G Industries, Inc. to reconstruct Pleasant Valley Road and replace the Pleasant Valley Road Bridge over the Podunk River. The project will commence on or around June 13, 2023. 0 & G will first remove all of the trees and bushes and surveyors will stake out the project, which will start at Pepin Place and continue to Ellington Road. The crew will begin bridge work with the temporary relocation of utilities immediately surrounding the bridge, located at approximately 575 Pleasant Valley Road. The reconstruction will include new stormwater drainage structures and pipes; full-depth reconstruction of the roadway with new stone base, pavement, curbs, and concrete sidewalks along one side of the road; replacement of driveway aprons; and restoration of all disturbed roadside areas with topsoil and grass seed. There will be a complete demolition of the existing bridge, which was originally built in 1929 and last improved in 1988, and the construction of a new bridge in its place. The construction will extend into the fall; 0 & G Industries will complete as much work as possible before winter. The goal is to substantially finish this project by the end of November 2023, with a new bridge to last 50 to 100 years.
