CREOC Hazardous Waste Collection

Manchester, CT at 321 Olcott Street facility

The Capitol Region East Operating Committee (CREOC) provides for Household Hazardous Waste Collection services to eight member Towns. These towns are South Windsor, Glastonbury, Hebron, Manchester, Marlborough, Somers, Stafford, and Vernon. 

CREOC provides an opportunity to safely dispose of the following items: 

  • Acids 
  • Insecticides 
  • Herbicides 
  • Fertilizers 
  • Chemicals 
  • Household cleaning products
  • Other hazardous materials
Please leave all materials in their original containers.
 
Appointments are required.
 

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE 2024 Collection Events take place at:

From: 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. 
DIRECTIONS: Exit 1 off of 384.  Follow Spencer Street for 1 mile, then turn left onto Olcott Street.  Follow the signs for the HHW Facility.

Bring a Driver's License, Tax Bill or Car Registration to prove residency.

At the Collection Event

  • Proof of Residency (driver's license, tax bill or vehicle registration) is required.
  • No trailers or work vans permitted.
  • Attendees must remain in their vehicle at all times.
  • Vehicles will be approached from the passenger’s side.
  • Attendees must show a license through the window for Town verification.
  • HHW items must be in the rear of your vehicle. Vehicles shall have a remote trunk/gate mechanism or have compartment open prior to vehicle inspection.
  • All paperwork will be done by on-site staff from the outside of the vehicle the day of collection. No use of pre-printed online forms.
  • HHW shall be in disposable container(s). NO CONTAINERS WILL BE RETURNED. For example, old gasoline must be in a disposal container
  • All paint shall be separated from other HHW material. This will allow staff to process vehicles more efficiently.

 

What can I bring?

DO NOT BRING:

  • Used oil and anti-freeze are NOT accepted for Hazardous Waste Disposal. The used motor oil can be placed curbside next to the Blue Recycle Cart for pickup.  Please make sure is in a container with a screw cap.  If is a snap cap, please make sure to seal it with duct tape.  Please call All American Waste at 860-289-7850 with any questions regarding used motor oil.  You may bring the anti-freeze to the SW Town Garage for disposal.  The Town Garage is located at 157 Burgess Road, South Windsor, CT.  Please call the Town Garage at 860-648-6366 if you have any questions.

  • Paints can be disposed conveniently anytime through the statewide recycling program. Locations and details at paintcare.org. Dried-out paint or empty paint containers can be disposed of in regular trash. Do not bring to this collection event.

  • Asbestos Waste will NOT be accepted

Paint Recycling

DRIED OUT LATEX PAINT OR EMPTY PAINT CANS will not be accepted since these can be disposed in your regular trash.  For your convenience, paints can be conveniently disposed of anytime through the statewide recycling program.  Locations and details are available at paintcare.org.

CONNECTICUT PAINTCARE PROGRAM - CREOC participates in the PaintCare take back program.  Residents can  bring both OIL & LATEX Paints/Stains for disposal!  Visit https://www.paintcare.org for information, including year round locations where both oil and latex paints can be recycled for free, anytime.  For more information on HHW collections, please contact CREOC at 860-647-5279 or SW Public Works Department at (860) 644-2511, ext. 2343.
