Public Works Recognition Awards

This year we are pleased to have recognized Distinctive Tree Care as our Partnership Awardee and in particular Jason Yerke for their outstanding efforts and commitment to the Town of South Windsor and his staff for their continued efforts, helping us manage our tree resources here in South Windsor. They have been a welcome partner in the towns ongoing Vegetative Management Program and our street tree management activities.

This year we recognized Betty Warren as our Citizen Awardee.  Betty has served on the Inland Wetlands/Conservation Commission for 37 years, the Open Space Task Force for 23 years, and the South Windsor Agricultural Land Preservation Committee for 30 years!  Her leadership and conservation ethic has helped to maintain the rural and ecological integrity of South Windsor in the face of continuous development pressure since the 1980’s.  She lead the efforts of the Inland Wetland Commission to balance the economic benefits of development with the ecologic health South Windsor’s natural resources, by embracing innovative land use methods like requiring dedicated open space requirements, and new technologies for storm water management and treatment.  She valued the Public Works Department as a resource for information and as a partner to make the South Windsor community the best it could be.

The Richard Boudreault Public Works Award is given to an employee or group of employees who have  best exemplified the qualities of the late Richard Boudreault, Facilities Manager/Assistant to the Director of Public Works – dedication and enthusiasm for their work. This year’s recipient was Jacob Plona, Technician 2 of the Water Pollution Control Division of Public Works.

Jacob comes to work every day excited and enthusiastic; he leads by example and is both creative and insightful in his approach to advance GIS Technology to the waste water operations and collection system maintenance. Jacob truly embodies what Rich Boudreault stood for.

We congratulate all of this year’s Award recipients’ on their positive contribution to making South Windsor special.

In addition the Department received three proclamations- One from the Town Council, one from the Connecticut Legislature, and the third from Governor Malloy. Representative Tom Delnicki was on hand at both the Town Council meeting and on Tuesday’s Eli Terry School Tours of the Town Garage and the Waste  Water Treatment Plant to present the state proclamations.
